One card did almost all of this. For this window Arena Club added a Super Grail to the Soccer pack: a 2024-25 Panini Donruss Lionel Messi valued at $150,000. Its listed odds moved from 0.01% at open to 0.2% at peak, and that single change took its EV contribution from $15 to $300. On a $100 pack, that's the whole story.
The move was big enough and sudden enough that our own system flagged it as a possible software bug. It wasn't. It was a real EV crossing, so we sent an alert to Pro members. Several of them had the pack in Rip Mode while it was live, taking +EV swings at the Super Grail during the window. We've since tuned things so we'll keep alerting when EV spikes to levels like this.
Everything else is rounding next to it. At open the Messi's $15 contribution sat on top of a pool of 112 cards whose individual contributions topped out around $1.52. The pack's EV read 0.3% just after the window opened, essentially break-even. By our 4:10 PM PT reading the same Super Grail Messi was contributing $300 on its own, and pack EV had climbed to 286.4%, the peak for the window.
To put the scale in plain terms: a $150,000 card at 0.2% odds is worth $300 of expected value by itself. The other 108 cards in the peak pool combined contribute well under $50. Move that one card's odds and the entire pack reprices.
The other tiers barely register
Between open and peak the broad Lineup odds held at 0.9795%, and the Chase cards drifted up slightly (the Lamine Yamal Sapphire Chase went from 0.25% to 0.2312%, for example). Those are pennies of EV against a $300 swing. The Grail tier had three cards near $400,000 at 0.0133% odds, contributing about $0.51 to $0.55 each. Again, not the mover.
How it closed
The window ran about 2 hours, from 2:34 PM to 4:26 PM PT, across 133 readings. By the close at 4:26 PM the Super Grail Messi was gone from the pool entirely. Pool size had drained from 112 to 61, and the top contributor was a $165 Alexander Isak at $3.23. EV at our last reading was -16.2%.
So the shape is clean: near zero at open, 286.4% at peak once the promotional Messi's odds jumped, then negative once that card left and the pool thinned by half.
